MaryAnn George (they/them) is a Trans Nonbinary artist from St. Louis, MO, currently based in Brooklyn, NY where they create art, coach, and teach.
They grew up in a large Lebanese family, the third of six children. Their path has led them from Missouri to San Francisco to Iceland to New York, from milking cows to graduating top of their class at Parsons School of Design. They also attended The School of the Museum of Fine Arts in Boston and the University of Iceland.
While MaryAnn works with multiple mediums, they feel a special connection to collage. The malleability, accessibility, and immediacy of digital collage is very appealing to the fluidity of MaryAnn’s art making practice.
Inspired by tapestries, family trees, embroidery, magical realism, and zine culture, they are also drawn to radiant colors, symmetry, and sacred symbols. Their work is focused on reimagining and revitalizing images as a way to reframe and recenter narratives of power and identity. They have an eye for the divine and deep understanding of duality as well as complexity.
